TamaTown Tama-Go

The TamaTown Tama-Go is a digital pet made by Bandai. They started selling it in the USA and Australia in August 2010. This is like a mix of 2 other Tamagotchi releases: the Tamagotchi Plus Color and the Tamagotchi Music Star. Some people call it the Tamagotchi Connection Version 7 or V7, but the box doesn’t say that.

The Tama-Go has some new features. It can connect to other Tamagotchis using infrared. It can show things in 4 shades of grey, which later Tamagotchi Friends also did. It also has 3D backgrounds, which is new. The screen is wider, like the older V5 and V6/Music Star. If you don’t play with it for a while, the background can disappear.

In 2012, a Brazilian company, Long Jump, got permission from Bandai to make a version of TamaTown tama-Go to sell in Brazil.

Design

The Tama-Go looks a lot like the Tamagotchi iD. The bottom is flat, and you can take off the top part to put in something called a Gotchi Figure. There’s a plastic cover over the screen that you can easily take off. You can also change the design around the screen. This toy is about 3x bigger than other Tamagotchis.

The buttons are white and hard, not soft and rubbery like older Tamagotchis. There’s a small loop on the top right with a bead chain attached to it. The box the device comes in shows the character’s personality and favorite saying. It has a flap you can open to find a Mini DVD with short videos called “Let’s Go! Tamagotchi”. The flap also has more information about the device.

Gameplay

Gameplay

Gotchi Figures

Gotchi Figures are small toys that look like Tamagotchi characters. You can put them on top of the Tama-Go. When you do this, you get new games and food for your Tamagotchi. If you register online with a figure on your Tama-Go, you can get special items in Tamatown. Each figure has 2 games and a shop or restaurant with 9 items, but only 4 are available at a time. You get 1figure with the Tama-Go, and you can buy more. Extra figures come with a special faceplate that matches the character.

Training

If you catch your Tamagotchi about to use the bathroom and you use the toilet icon, it helps train them. If you train them well, when they grow up, they can use the bathroom on their own.

House Interiors

The new gray shades make the Tamagotchi’s home look more detailed with different furniture and windows. You can buy new house designs from the shop for 5,000 Gotchi points.

Door

Instead of a Game button, there’s now a Door icon. Your Tamagotchi can leave their house to visit different places. Some places open up as your Tamagotchi gets older. For others, you need to buy tickets at stores. The places are:

  • Games: An arcade with 2 games.
  • Shop: Where you can buy more food and house designs.
  • Park: Your Tamagotchi can meet another character and play.
  • PC: This lets your Tamagotchi visit TamaTown online.
  • Dating Place: When your Tamagotchi is 6 years old, you can choose who they marry here.

Icons

Games

There are 2 games in the arcade:

  • Shoot the Bugs: Shoot as many bugs as you can in 90 seconds.
  • Long Jumper: Help your Tamagotchi jump over gaps.

TamaTown

Like older Tamagotchi devices, the Tama-Go can connect to a website called TamaTown. You can earn points and buy things there. The website has 3 new areas for the Tama-Go: Swirly Sweets City, Flower Hills Park and Forest Falls. The website now has day and night, and you can log in with more than 1 Tamagotchi.

Connecting to Others

The Tama-Go can connect to some older Tamagotchis (Version 5, Version 5 Celebrity and Music Star). You can play 2 games together or have your Tamagotchis get married. For marriage to work, the Tamagotchis need to have a good relationship. Playing games together helps improve their relationship.

Trivia

Trivia

1. In Asia, Australia and Brazil, the Tama-Go boxes don’t say “TamaTown” on them. Instead, they use the logo and character designs from the Tamagotchi! TV show.

2. This is the first Tamagotchi device sold around the world that has characters from the Tamagotchi iD, especially Lovelitchi, who became a very popular character.

3. The Tama-Go started some new ideas that were used in later Tamagotchi toys:

  • The idea of attaching something to add games and items was used again in the Tamagotchi P’s. It had small charms called Tama Deco Pierce that also had characters you could raise.
  • Being able to change the faceplate was used again in the Tamagotchi 4U. But in the 4U, the design was printed on the faceplate instead of being on paper.
  • Training your Tamagotchi to use the bathroom by itself is also in the Tamagotchi 4U.

4. At 2010 Toy Fair, they showed Gotchi Figures of characters, Grippatchi and Mamametchi, but these were never sold in stores.

5. The Tama-Go has 18 secret characters that you can’t get normally. Many of these are from older Tamagotchi releases and some are from the Tamagotchi iD. The information for these characters is in the device, but there’s no official way to get them.

Gotchi Figures are small, collectible toys resembling Tamagotchi characters. Attaching one to your Tama-Go unlocks new games, food options, and online rewards in TamaTown. Each figure offers two unique games and a shop or restaurant with exclusive items.

Training revolves around toilet usage. If you catch your Tamagotchi about to have an accident and promptly select the toilet icon, you contribute to their potty training. With consistent effort, your Tamagotchi will learn to use the bathroom independently as they mature.

TamaTown is an online platform where you can connect your Tama-Go, earn points, purchase items, and engage with the wider Tamagotchi community. Access TamaTown by selecting the "PC" option through the "Door" icon on your device.

The Tama-Go is compatible with some older models, including Version 5, Version 5 Celebrity, and Music Star. Connectivity enables two-player games and the possibility of marriage between compatible Tamagotchis.

Yes, the Tama-Go features 18 secret characters inaccessible through regular gameplay. These include characters from previous generations and the Tamagotchi iD. Although data for these characters exists within the device, there is no official method to obtain them.
