Tamagotchi iD
Bandai introduced the Tamagotchi iD (たまごっち アイディー Tamagotchi Aidī) in Japan back in 2009. This device, often called “ID,” marked the second entry in the Tamagotchi Color series.
What made the Tamagotchi iD special was that you could download new stuff for it. You could get new items, clothes for your pet, backgrounds and games. To do this, you’d use infrared to connect to a website, tama-id.com.
This version had some new cool things. You could visit new places in the game and meet new characters. You could even put clothes and accessories on your Tamagotchi.
Around this time, there was also a Tamagotchi cartoon show on TV. The Tamagotchi iD was the first version to include stuff from the show. You could see places from the cartoon in your game, and even play with a character named Lovelitchi.
The main goal of Tamagotchi iD is to raise your digital pets and try to collect all the adult characters. You wanted to make these characters your “Tama-Friends.” This idea was so popular that they kept using it in later versions of Tamagotchi, like the Tamagotchi iD L and up to the Tamagotchi m!x.

Design
In terms of design, the Tamagotchi iD is a bit different from the older version, the Plus Color. When you hold the device, you’ll notice that the back isn’t flat. Instead, it’s rounded, which feels nicer in your hand.
Around the screen, there’s a clear plastic part that looks like a jewel. This gives the Tamagotchi iD a fancy look. Below the screen, you’ll see 3 buttons. These buttons are white and made of plastic. You use these buttons to navigate the game.
To sum up: Rounded back, jewel-like clear plastic around the screen, and 3 white buttons at the bottom. That’s what makes the Tamagotchi iD look special compared to the older ones.
Gameplay
TamaTomo
This is a new feature in the iD version. Your goal is to raise and collect all the adult characters. You do this by unlocking 4 parts of their “tamatomo” (shown as balls with Japanese letters) and getting their stamp. As you get more stamps, you’ll see decorations outside the house. You can also unlock a special place called the Tama-Friend Plaza.
To make a Tama-Friend, you need to give the adult character things they like, such as their favorite food or accessories. Each character likes different stuff. You also need to keep the adults for 3 days to fully befriend them.
Games
The Tamagotchi iD has 4 games:
- Gogo Slot: It’s a slot machine game with Tamagotchi characters.
- Koretotte: You catch fashion items falling from the top of the screen.
- Build A Burger: You help make burgers (this one you have to download).
- Rainbow Road: You drive on a rainbow and dodge obstacles (also downloadable).
Accessories
Adult Tamagotchis can wear accessories. You can buy these or download them. They can only wear one at a time.
Photo Studio
There’s a place where adult Tamagotchis can get their pictures taken. You can choose different outfits and backgrounds. It costs 450 gotchi points to take a picture.
Downloads
You could download new stuff for your Tamagotchi iD from a website, tama-id.com. You need a phone with IR connectivity to do this.
End Game
In this version, adult Tamagotchis don’t die if you don’t take care of them. Instead, they pack a suitcase and run away. You can try to make them stay by selecting a clover icon when you see the suitcase. If they leave, you have to start over with a new Tamagotchi.
Icons
Check Meter
This shows how your Tamagotchi is doing. You can see if it’s hungry, happy, how many stamps you’ve got, and how much Gotchi Points you have. It also tells you how many Tama-Friends you’ve made and info about your current Tamagotchi like its name and age.
Food
You can feed your Tamagotchi meals or snacks. For meals, you can use food from your fridge (usually rice) or go to a store or restaurant. For snacks, you can use stuff from your cupboard or go to Tama Donuts or Tama Cafe. At Tama Donuts, if you buy donuts 3 days in a row, you get a special big donut!
Bathroom
This cleans up poop or lets you take your Tamagotchi to the toilet or give it a bath.
Door
This lets you visit different places in Tamagotchi Town, like a game center, park, shopping places and a photo studio. You can also change your Tamagotchi’s house look here.
Connection
This lets you connect your Tamagotchi to other devises or enter codes for special items.
Accessories
This is where you keep hats and other stuff for your adult Tamagotchi to wear.
Item Box
Here you can use different items with your Tamagotchi.
Book

Use this when your Tamagotchi is sick or about to run away.
Attention
This lights up when your Tamagotchi needs something. If you press a button when no icons are lit, your Tamagotchi goes to the garden and you can see the time.
Remember, some of these things only work when your Tamagotchi is grown up.

This version had characters from a detective show called Detective Conan. Not much is known about it because it’s so hard to find.
More iD! Tamagotchi Home Station Plus
This is a home base for your Tamagotchi iD. You could connect your Tamagotchi to it and get new stuff like items, food, clothes, rooms, and places to visit. You had to play games to unlock these things.
Tamagotchi ID SPOT
This is a special black and silver Tamagotchi iD that you couldn’t buy in stores. It was only found in toy stores in Japan. When you connected your regular Tamagotchi iD to it, you’d get special, limited edition items. Because you couldn’t buy it and it was only in certain places, it’s one of the rarest Tamagotchis ever made.
Trivia
1. The Tamagotchi iD appeared a lot in the Tamagotchi! cartoon show. You’d see it during short breaks called eyecatches. These little breaks would show off the iD, reminding everyone watching about the real Tamagotchi toy they could buy.
2. The iD kept showing up in these breaks until the 6th season of the show. After that, they started showing a newer toy called the Tamagotchi iD L instead. This was because they had made a new version of the toy in real life, so they updated the cartoon to match it.
3. The iD was also a big part of the show’s opening song. The song was called “GO-GO Tamagotchi!” and it was pretty catchy. In this opening, you’d see Mametchi (that’s one of the main Tamagotchi characters) and his friends coming out of the iD’s screen. It was a fun, make-believe scene that made the toy look exciting.
4. The Tamagotchi iD wasn’t just a toy you could buy, it was also a star in a TV show! This helped make kids want the toy even more because they see it in the show they love to watch.
Tips & Tricks
1. The screen shows how your Tamagotchi is doing. There are 4 rice bowls that tell you if it’s hungry, and a bar that shows how happy it is. If these are empty, your pet will let you know it needs something. For adult Tamagotchis, you can make the happiness bar bigger by earning the letters Ta, Ma, To, and Mo.
2. Below the happiness bar, there are 4 empty circles for Ta, Ma, To, and Mo letters. Adult Tamagotchis can earn these by doing special things like eating certain foods or playing with certain items. At the bottom, you can see how many Gotchi Points you have. You get these points by playing mini-games and you can use them to buy stuff.
3. When you want to give your pet a snack, you have 3 choices. At home, it can eat an orange. At Tama Donuts, it can have a doughnut (and you can change the flavor by setting the time to 6:59 AM). At Tama Cafe, a Tamagotchi serves your pet while a character called Mimitchi is in the background.
4. The shower/bath icon does a few things. If your pet made a mess, you can clean it up. You can also take your pet to the toilet when it needs to go, or give it a bath. If your pet turns brown or black, it really needs a bath!
5. In the arcade, there are 2 games to start with, and you can get more if you have a Japanese cell phone. One game is a slot machine with Tamagotchi characters. The other game is about catching falling items. These games are fun and help you earn Gotchi Points.
6. Through the Door icon, you can go to Tama Depa to buy things for your Tamagotchi using your Gotchi Points. If your Tamagotchi is grown up, you can also go to a Photo Studio to take pictures of it. You can keep up to 5 photos, and you can look at them in the book icon. If you want to take more photos when you already have 5, you’ll need to delete an old one first.
Secret Passwords
Here’s how to enter a password on your Tamagotchi iD:
- First, find the heart icon in the top right corner. This is called the connection icon. Press it.
- You’ll see a menu with 2 pages. Go to the second page. “Password” should be at the top of this page. Select it.
- Now you’ll see 2 choices:
- If your password has only numbers (0 to 9), pick the top choice.
- If your password has letters (A to Z) or spaces, pick the bottom choice.
- When you’re typing in your password:
- If it’s shorter than 10 letters or numbers, you need to fill in the empty spots at the end with spaces.
Remember, spaces count as characters, too. So if your password is “HELLO” (which is 5 letters), you’d need to add 5 spaces after it to make it 10 characters long. This might seem a bit tricky at first, but you’ll get the hang of it after doing it a few times. Don’t worry if you make a mistake, you can always try again.
