Genjintch Tamagotchi
Genjintch Tamagotchi is a special Tamagotchi released in Japan in November 1997. You could only get it in movie theaters that were showing the movie, “Peking Man.” The idea for the Genjintch came from this movie. The name Genjintch in Japanese is written as 原人っちのたまごっち.
Design
There was only one design for the Genjintch Tamagotchi. The main color is chocolate brown. Around the screen, there are 9 white bones. The area around these bones is a bit darker brown. One bone is bigger than the rest. It’s at the top of the toy and has “Genjintch” written on it in red. The buttons you press are yellow. The edge of the screen is red. When you look at the screen, you see a picture that looks like a desert. It has green ferns in it, too.

Icons
Health Meter
This looks like scales. It shows how healthy your Tamagotchi is.
- Screen 1 – Shows age in days and weight in kilos.
- Screen 2 – Shows how hungry your Tamagotchi is.
- Screen 3 – Shows how happy your Tamagotchi is.
- Screen 4 – Shows how close your Tamagotchi is to changing into a new form. This goes up when you praise it for making pottery.
Food
The icon looks like a chicken bone. Here’s where you feed your Tamagotchi:
- Meal: A piece of chicken. Makes your Tamagotchi gain 1 kilo and fills 1 hunger heart.
- Snack: A mushroom. Makes your Tamagotchi gain 2 kilos and fills 1 happiness heart.
Game
The icon looks like a bone. The premise of the game: a bone is hidden in 1 of 4 holes. You guess where it is:
- If you guess right 3 or more times, your Tamagotchi gets happier and loses 1 kilo.
- If you get all 5 right, it gets even happier and loses 2 kilos.
Toilet
The icon looks like poo. Use this to clean up when your Tamagotchi makes a mess. If you don’t clean up for a long time, your Tamagotchi might get sick.
Praise
The icon looks like a face. Sometimes your Tamagotchi will make noise more than twice. This means it’s making pottery. Use this icon to praise it. This helps it change into new forms.
Medicine
The icon looks like herbs. Use this when your Tamagotchi is sick. Sometimes you need to use it more than once.
Lights
The icon looks like a swirly sun. Use this to turn lights on and off. Turn them off when your Tamagotchi goes to bed. They’ll turn on by themselves when it wakes up.
Attention
This looks like an angry face. You can’t choose this icon. It lights up when your Tamagotchi is very hungry, unhappy, sleeping, or making pottery.
Trivia
1. The Genjintch works a lot like another special Tamagotchi called the Mothra Tamagotchi. The way you take care of it and how it grows are very similar in both releases.
2. Genjintch Tamagotchi needs a lot of care. If you ignore it too much, it can change back into a younger form instead of growing up. Its age stays the same, but you have to spend time helping it grow up all over again. It takes just as long to grow up the second time as it did the first time.
3. The Genjintch Tamagotchi doesn’t die like other Tamagotchis do. Instead, when its time is up, it flies away in a rocket. After that, you see a Japanese letter called “kan” on the screen. This letter means “end” or “complete”.
4. The Genjintch has 8 characters, plus 3 secret characters.
Tips & Tricks
1. To start your Genjintch Tamagotchi:
- Pull out the small tab on the side. You’ll hear a funny noise and see a human skull. This means it’s turned on.
- Press the B button to set the time. Use A to change hours and B for minutes. Press C when you’re done.
- If you want 24-hour time instead of 12-hour, press A while the clock is running. After 12:00 PM, it will show times up to 23:59 (which is 11:59 PM).
- Wait about 5 minutes. Your Genjintch character will appear.
2. If your Genjintch stops working, you need to change its batteries. You’ll need 2 LR44 batteries and a tiny, sharp screwdriver. On the back, there are 2 small screws. Take them out, put in the new batteries, and screw it back together tightly. Unfortunately, if you were in the middle of caring for your Genjintch, you’ll have to start over from the beginning once you put in new batteries.
