Demon Slayer Tamagotchi

The Demon Slayer Tamagotchi is a small toy based on the popular Demon Slayer cartoon and comic books. In Japan, they call it the Kimetsu Tamagotchi.

This toy came out in Japan in October 2020, right when they showed the Demon Slayer movie in theaters. The movie was called “Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Movie – Mugen Train.”

Americans could buy it starting January 1, 2021. Even though it was sold in the U.S., the toy still had Japanese writing and worked the same as the Japanese version. If people needed help understanding how to use it, they could find instructions in English on the Bandai company’s website.

Design

demon slayer tamagotchi

The Demon Slayer Tamagotchi goes back to using the old ball and chain style that earlier small Tamagotchi had. This is different from the Pac-Man Tamagotchi and Evatchi, which looked different.

The outside of each Demon Slayer Tamagotchi is designed to look like the clothes worn by characters in the Demon Slayer story. In the first version they made, 4 of the designs look like the clothes of the 4 main characters. There’s also a special one you can only get from Amazon, which looks like the regular uniform that all Demon Slayers wear.

They made another version called the Hashira Gathering Version. In this one, the outsides of the toys look like the clothes worn by 9 important characters called the Hashira.

Story

Story

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” is a Japanese comic book and cartoon series that started in 2016. The story happens in old Japan, around 100 years ago.

It’s about a boy named Tanjiro Kamado and his sister Nezuko Kamado. Nezuko has been turned into a demon, and Tanjiro is trying to find a way to make her human again.

While doing this, Tanjiro and Nezuko get mixed up with a secret group called the Demon Slayer Corps. This group has been fighting demons for hundreds of years without regular people knowing about it. The Demon Slayer Corps is run by nine very strong and respected fighters called the Hashira.

In the Demon Slayer Tamagotchi, you have to take care of and train a new member of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Versions

Versions

The Demon Slayer Tamagotchi comes in 3 different types. Each type has different characters you can raise, different mini-games to play, different daily animations to watch, and different demons that attack your character.

The Standard version:

  • You can raise 6 regular Demon Slayers and 9 special fighters called Hashira.

The Hashira Gathering Version:

  • This came out in Japan on March 23, 2021.
  • It came out in Korea in April 2021.
  • Americans could buy it starting August 1, 2021.
  • In this version, they took out Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko.
  • Instead, they added two new Demon Slayers named Genya Shinazugawa and Kanao Tsuyuri.
  • You can still raise the 9 Hashira characters in this version.

The Yukaku Edition:

  • This came out in Japan on June 18, 2022.
  • It has all the characters from the Standard version.
  • It also adds three new characters: Sumiko, Zenko, and Inoko.
  • These new characters are actually Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke dressed up as courtesans (which are like fancy entertainers from old Japan).

Starting Out

When you first turn on the toy, you’ll see your Demon Slayer join the Demon Slayer Corps. They start as a Mizunoto, which is the lowest rank. After a day, they might become a Kinoe (next rank up) or a character from the Demon Slayer show. How well you take care of them affects how they grow.

Buttons

There are no pictures on the screen to show what to do. Instead, you use buttons:

  • Press C to see what your Demon Slayer needs.
  • Press A to feed them or play games.

Your Demon Slayer has 2 needs: Hunger and Happiness. Each can have up to four points. You need to keep these full to keep your Demon Slayer healthy.

Games

There are three games you can play. These help your Demon Slayer grow. The games are different in each version of the toy, but they all involve pressing buttons at the right time or quickly.

Missions

Sometimes a crow will bring a mission, and a demon will appear. You need to press A to make your Demon Slayer fight the demon. If you don’t, your Demon Slayer might get hurt.

Daily Events

Every hour, you’ll see different events from the Demon Slayer show.

Injury and Death

If you don’t take good care of your Demon Slayer, they can get hurt or even die. If they’re hurt, you can heal them by pressing A many times.

Interesting Facts About the Demon Slayer Tamagotchi

1. This Tamagotchi is special for a few reasons:

  • It’s the first one sold in America that still has Japanese writing on the screen. If you need help understanding it, you can find English instructions on Bandai’s website.
  • Instead of words, it uses pictures for its menus. This makes it easier for people who don’t read Japanese.
  • It’s the first Japanese Tamagotchi sold in America that doesn’t have a screw holding the battery in place. It uses a tab you can press instead.

2. The Demon Slayer Tamagotchi has more different designs on its outside than any other special Tamagotchi like it. There are 17 different designs in total:

  • The first version had 5 designs
  • The second version had 9 designs
  • The third version had 3 designs

3. This is the fourth Tamagotchi based on a Japanese cartoon or comic book. The others were:

  • Doraemontchi
  • Oden-Kun Tamagotchi
  • Evatchi

4. The games in the first 2 versions are based on the training that Demon Slayers do in the show. In the show, this training helps Demon Slayers get stronger after they’ve been hurt.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Demon Slayer Tamagotchi is a virtual pet toy based on the popular anime and manga series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba". Released in Japan as "Kimetsu Tamagotchi," it allows users to raise and train their own Demon Slayer Corps member.

Your Demon Slayer has two main needs: Hunger and Happiness. You can check these needs by pressing the C button. To keep your Demon Slayer healthy, you need to feed them and play games with them, which can be accessed using the A button.

Neglecting your Demon Slayer's needs will result in injury or even death. If they get injured, you can heal them by rapidly pressing the A button.

Demon Slayers in the Tamagotchi progress through ranks. You begin as a Mizunoto, the lowest rank. With good care, your character can evolve into a Kinoe and potentially become a character from the Demon Slayer anime or manga.

The Demon Slayer Tamagotchi features three mini-games that help train your Demon Slayer. The games vary between versions but generally involve timing button presses correctly or reacting quickly. The Hashira Gathering Version includes games like "Boulder Lifting" and "Total Concentration" based on the Hashira training.

The character your Demon Slayer evolves into depends on factors like the version you have and the quality of care you provide. For example, in the Standard Version, providing good care to a Mizunoto may result in Zenitsu, while average care might lead to Tanjiro. Each character has specific requirements for evolution, often involving perfect scores in certain mini-games.
